I Already Have a Phone Line
If you already have a landline in your
name, you'll be interested in our competitive services that can
save you money on your local and long distance calls.
Local and Long Distance Bundled
Service
A very popular way to save money on your telephone
service is by switching to a competitive local and long distance
phone company. You pay a fixed amount per month for a package
of local and long distance minutes, very similar to the way cellular
phone service is billed. You also get to pick from a variety
of features including caller ID, call forwarding, call waiting,
etc. You get one bill each month for your phone service and you
know in advance how much it will be. Use the Bundled
Local and Long Distance Service Finder to see what is available in your area.
VoIP vs Traditional Telephone Service
A few years ago, we offered a number of competitive traditional
phone service providers that would lease your phone line from the
local telephone company and use it to deliver their own service
with more features at a lower cost. Sadly, regulatory changes
have made this approach too expensive to offer a savings for
residential users.
The new competitive phone service providers
completely bypass the local phone company by using a broadband
Internet connection to deliver local and long distance service
to your telephone. There are a wealth of plans to choose from
with various minute packages all the way up to unlimited calling.
You will need a DSL
or Cable broadband connection to make this work, but it doesn't
use your computer. Instead, you get a telephone adapator box
that connects the phone you are using now to your router or broadband
modem.
We've made it easy for you to find and compare
VoIP phone services with an easy online search engine dedicated
to that task. It's fast and free to use. Simply select the options
you want and it delivers a list of offers ranked cheapest first.

What About Triple-Play Bundles
The latest way to bundle services sounds like something from
a baseball game. It's called triple play. The 3 services involved
in the triple are telephone, broadband Internet, and television.

Do You Really Need Bundled Phone Service?
If you are happy with your local phone service and don't have
or want broadband Internet or a bundle with television service,
there's no reason you have to change it.
Another option that has been saving phone
callers money for a couple dozen years is competitive long distance
service. In this case, you switch only your long distance provider.
Your local service remains the same.
Just like with VoIP, we have a tool available that
lets you search
for the best competitive long distance service that meets
your needs. You can search to your heart's content, try rates
to various other countries that you call, and place an order
right online when you are ready.
Be sure to give the new provider ample
time to make the switch and don't try to do it yourself. They'll
have you switched over to your new service in a week or so and
you still press "1" to make a long distance call. The
big difference you'll notice is a lower long distance bill.
There's A Phone Line at the New Place,
But It's NOT in My Name
In this case, you need to call
the local phone company in the location of your new place to
establish service. Read more about how to do this and alternative
options in our article, I
do NOT have a telephone line.
